It’s no news that as the five days of fashion inch closer towards its culmination, the star spotting on and off the runways escalates. On day three, what could be called mid-fashion week, a number of veteran designers showcased their slew of festive and contemporary couture – Kshitij Jalori, Gaurang, Jayanti Reddy, Ridhi Mehra, Nachiket Barve to name a few. While most of these line-ups saw a celebrity showstopper, we found two distinct names who walked for two very different assemblages at the top of our list. First up is Diana Penty who closed the show for Ridhi Mehra wearing a pristine ivory lehenga laden with bead and sequin work from her collection ‘An Ode To Heirlooms’ that pays homage to India’s rich textile heritage. Mehra’s latest designs are a cross between Gujarati and Kashmiri crafts with bohemian punctuations – think Patola motifs and chintz clubbed with Kashmiri embroidery, ikat merged with Kashmiri prints. Next, we loved Tara Sutaria’s biker chic meets prairie girl vibe in Label Ritu Kumar’s embroidered and fringed black pinafore dress as she closed the show for Label Ritu Kumar’s ‘Structural Pastoral’ collection which was inspired by the country side style. We’re taking style cues from Penty for the upcoming wedding season and bookmarking Sutaria’s millennial-minded look for the music festivals that the winters will welcome.
