Being the absolute homebody that I am, I never thought there would come a day when staying in would become a mandate, so much so that stepping out would mean posing a threat to myself and those around me, courtesy of the novel COVID-19. So while there are a million ways one can criticize and crib about the current state of affairs, there are scarcely but surely a few beautiful lessons to take away. For instance, getting dressed for a day of work. After years of carefully curating my looks for work, the quarantine came as a welcome relief to all the morning chaos of deciding what to wear for the day. But while I must admit that it took some time to ease into this new dress code and since I actually did enjoy putting my #OOTD together, the shift in my approach from fashion-first to comfort-first meant that I now had more time on my hands to infuse a few small wellness practices into my morning routine that I would otherwise sweep under the rug blaming it on shortage of time, such as meditating, listening to my favorite motivational podcast and even enjoying a cup of peppermint tea at a peaceful pace. What’s more? I realized that a laidback approach to my closet – mainly comprising of pared-back pants, oversized tees and leisurely loungewear – brought with it a relaxed state of mind which in turn helped me bring more focus and a refreshing new energy into my writing as I begin my work-from-home day. I was also able to take the liberty of squeezing in an hour of perusing through my favorite book after work as I would not have to worry about changing into another outfit for my indoors workout or an outdoorsy evening later in the day. What this forceful lockdown did for me, is give me a clearer perspective of my parents’ practice of owning no more than two sets of clothes for everyday which they alternate between and another few sets of clothes for special occasions and how this possibly contributes to them making more time to do more meaningful things in life. I was hard-pressed to wonder how deeply the way we dress dictate the way we live and how important it is to take a step back and give your wardrobe the detox it deserves from time to time like you do your diet and your mind! Scroll down to find pieces that will be your comfort companions while you stay in and hopefully help you unwind like they helped me!
