The recognition of being Best-Dressed on the red carpet is just as important as the awards themselves, it has been said. Little wonder then that every year for Oscar night, celebrities, stylists, and brands strive to put out their best. Not least because almost a billion eyes are on the stars that evening.
Back home in our country, we have our very own red carpet moments. We don’t just mean the award shows that the stars attend, but the dozen or so weddings each of us attends every year. Another season of weddings, the summer one, is almost upon us. And we thought you’d enjoy some good old Hollywood inspiration to plan your outfits.
Here are some trends that popped out at us from the Oscar red carpet ceremony.
RED RIDING HIGH
What better way to pull all the eyes toward you than a shocking red dress. Kirsten Dunst, Tracee Ellis Ross, Amy Forsyth, and Rosie Perez all wore red dresses. Even the men didn’t stay away from it – Simu Liu wore a red suit and Wesley Snipes wore wine.
BETTER TUX IT
When in doubt, wear a tuxedo. The old adage for men was taken up by Kristen Stewart to stunning effect. Her look was easy, cool, nothing like a stodgy old suit. Here are a few ways to achieve the look.
SHINING LIKE JEWELS
A red carpet staple, jewel tones made a significant impact thanks to Jamie Lee Curtis and Reba McEntire.
SPARKLE MANIA
High shine, big impact. Celebrities went maximal and dressed in shiny sequins head to toe. Noteworthy looks were the night’s big winner Jessica Chastain and Becky G. And then there was Zendaya’s Valentino skirt. Truly decked out!
MAN ALIVE
From Timothee Chalamet’s embellished lace jacket to the monochromatic looks donned by Kodi Smit-McPhee and Simu Liu, the men brought their A game.
SPECIAL MENTION
A hearty shout out to our very own, Gaurav Gupta who dressed Megan Thee Stallion for the evening in a periwinkle sculptural gown. Inimitable!
