7 Trends From LMIFW That You'll See Everywhere

by Editors

Fashion Week might be a few days affair, but its impact lasts a season. From seeing creative antics on the runway to debating what elements will be as popular off it, we love how just a few days make a huge difference in shaping up a major trend. Here are seven trends we have a hunch, will dominate the spring-summer ’19 mood.

1. Anti-Fit Clothing

Designers like Prashant Varma, Huemn, Dhruv Kapoor and many more replaced the fit with anti-fit. Zero silhouettes, baggy unstructured structures remained prevalent form day 1 to 4. We have a feeling in the hot summer of 2019, anti-fit will be our saviour!

Style Tip: If you truly want to embrace anti-fit then stick to your shift dresses and oversized shirts this summer. We’d recommend you raid your boyfriend’s closet and choose some ultra-airy pieces that have no reason to show off your summer bod!

2. Brocade

The richness of brocade is what makes this fabric so close to our hearts. Abhishek Gupta & Nandita Basu and Ministry Of Textiles focussed on many brocade pieces that connected with the audience. From gorgeous long dresses to pantsuits to a statement skirt in rainbow colours that made us gush instantly.

Style Tip: Opt for some key pieces like skirts, pants, and jackets in brocade so you can team them up with any basic base colour. Mixing your good old pair of denim with a dash of brocade will be a great way to stand apart from the crowd, fashionably!

3. Metallics

Metallics are all the rage this season and the runway was no exception to the flash. From Athiya Shetty sporting a metallic blazer to Nitin Bal Chauhan’s bronze sequins and the electric metallic blue swimsuit from Shivan & Narresh have set our upcoming summer to be as shiny as the 80’s disco ball!

Style Tip: You could go all out with metallics or choose to have shiny accents in your look- everything goes. Metallics are here to stay so you can have fun with it!

4. Organza

Organza was a popular fabric this fashion week since opacity is no longer a requirement for clothing this season. We’ve seen beautiful renditions of the textile on the runway for labels like Amrich, Rahul Mishra, Lovebirds, and Samant Chauhan. From saree drapes to sheath dresses, this material beautiful plays out the dressing-with-ease vibes. The sheerness and lightness of the material make it a hero fabric for the rising temperatures ahead.

Style Tip: The simplest way to try this trend is by wearing a full coverage crop top and layering the fabric over or under the top. You can also wear it as a dress or outerwear by sporting a full coverage dress under it.

5. Pantsuit

Season after season, fashion week finds a way to make us fall in love with pantsuits all over again. The utter sharpness and the unparalleled respect the attire commands is what draws us girls to it (While we run the world, we want to look the part!).

Style Tip: You can go old school and sport the look with a plain shirt and matching suit like showcased by the Japanese designer (who recently debuted his collection at Paris Fashion Week and LMIFW right after) – Atsushi Nakashima. You could also choose a print that adds more edge to your sharp suit as showcased by designers like Prashant Verma and Siddartha Tytler.

6. Colourful Stripes And Checks

Gone are the days when stripes and checks were accustomed to being seen in monochrome or in a low-key combo. The LMIFW runway saw no restriction on varicoloured stripes and checks this time. From vibrant colours to muted shades, labels like Péro, Rahul Mishra, Wendell Rodricks, Payal Pratap and Amita Gupta rendered an eclectic take on this construction.

Style Tip: Best way to wear summer stripes and checks is to include them in your outerwear. Keep your outfit basic and this trend as the focus with your summer layering!

7.  Voluminous Hemlines

Hemline was the area of focus for many designers as we could see a distinct element of volume in it. Fishtail gowns, mermaid dresses, and sharara pants got our attention from FROW. Be it Indian or fusion wear, this trend of highlighting the hemline with a structure is going to dominate the upcoming seasons.

Style Tip: Since the silhouette is making a statement in itself, we would recommend you go light on the accessories and team up the bottoms with a basic top.
