Its late May and the summers have reached their peak. Don’t know about you but while we’re tempted to give our swimming gear a spot under the sun, we also realise the struggle that comes with it – discovering the ultimate two-piece (or one-piece in some cases) that will hug the curves in all the right places without making us resign to the comfort zone of our trusty (but oh-so-boring) swim dresses! So, after many permutations and combinations, we’ve come up with this cheat sheet to finding the star style for your shape. The trick is to beat the heat with pieces that highlight the areas you’re most confident about.
Hourglass
When Kim Kardashian is not only your fashion pinup but also your body twin then consider colour-blocked pieces, boxy halter tops and asymmetrical suits your holy grail. Styles like these will accentuate your curves while providing enough coverage and support for heavier busts and bottoms.
Athletic
For figures that are straighter than arched, experiment with frills or embellishments on the top with preferably padded options. Additionally, monokinis and side-tie bikinis create an illusion of having more curves making them ideal for those who love flaunting a shapelier figure.
Pear Shaped
To draw the attention away from the heaviest part of the body, give skirted bottoms the test run. Add some drama to your swimsuit with plunging tops to balance out the proportions. The only rule to remember? Steer clear of figure-hugging bottoms, especially the boy short underwear.
Apple Shaped
Think thick strapped, underwired and full coverage tops for fuller figures – they serve fashion and function in one swish stroke. Opt for high waisted bottoms that will help shape the torso and also add length to your form if you are on the shorter side. That said, don’t shy away from experimenting with colours and trims.
