I remember my mum’s fashion sense distinctly from when I was just a kid. And it was her style that made me fall in love with denims. I grew up watching her knotting a denim shirt at the front over a long, floral skirt. She loved denims so much that she would dress me up – a baby – in denim overalls and cute little dungarees. And with changing trends, our love has only grown. With winter around the corner, here are five denim classics that my mum and I both wear. The Denim Shirt Every year, come November, our cotton shirts get swapped by heavy denim shirts. While I like mine to be skinny and form-hugging, my mom loves to shop in the men’s section for her denim shirt.

The Light Winter Jacket
This is by a trend that has lasted the longest. My mom bought her first denim jacket when she was in college, and I still wear it sometimes! Though, we’ve both switched to denim bombers and cropped ones now.
ONLY Blue Puff Sleeves Denim Jacket The Skinny Jeans My mom’s daily staple is a kurta with a churidar, but when it gets cold she switches her cotton churidars with skinny jeans. The effect is the same, and they keep her legs warm. And for me, skinny jeans are the daily staple.
DOLCE CRUDO Blue Skinny High Rise Denim Jeans The Denim Dungarees Another classic piece, the dungaree was fashionable in the 80s, 90s, as it is now. I like a pair of cute dungaree shorts or skinny ankle length ones, while my mum prefers baggy ones with folded cuffs – the workman’s dungarees.
Miss Chase Light Blue Denim Dungaree The Denim Dress A go-to favourite for us both is the sleek and chic denim dress. We pair it with stockings if it gets too cold. A heavy midi-dress is my mother’s favourite, though she also likes to wear a maxi denim dress with an added shirt.
