We are witnessing an explosion on the Indian wear scene. There is so much color, so much romance, such reverence in what’s being made this year, that picking a handful of trends proved difficult. Still, five we have picked.
BOLD & BRIGHT
Bold colors have always been associated with India. But not in decades have they been quite this bright or quite this bold. Every Holi Color, every neon, and all brights besides. It’s a technicolor riot of pop colors. From lemon and mustard to fuchsia and barbie pink. And not in small bits, they’re all over.
SUMMER OF LOVE
It’s time to celebrate. The desire to dress up and have fun again drives a vibrant, carefree summer story. And what better way to celebrate than with flowers. They’re being sourced from vintage screens, from architecture, and presented in worn-in colors, even achieved by dyeing with natural vegetals.
DYE EFFECTS
Distorted dye effects, classic tie dye and more understated mottled iterations all remain key this season. Colourways range from eye-catching psychedelic combinations that tie in to the #joyfulexpression movement, to more muted tones.
HANDCRAFTED MODESTY
Whether painted by hand or embroidered by hand, there is a renewed focus on handicraft and the artisan. Rustic embroidery and exquisite needlework are just some ways in which hands have treated garments this season. Handcrafted pieces are highly decorative but humble, and will instantly add a rich feel to otherwise simple separates. Unlike years past, the post pandemic world still hasnt allowed for excess, and designers have adopted subtle or small details to showcase the outfit.
